The Peter J. Tobin College of Business has worked with some of the premier specialists in the field to develop an innovative graduate degree program resulting in a Master of Science in Taxation. The one-year program provides a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, tax regulations, judicial decisions and Treasury rulings. The tax curriculum focuses on the technical area of taxation so that graduates are able to enter and advance as tax specialists in the profession of public accounting or enter corporate management in the tax area.
What makes the MS in Tax program at St. John's exceptional? Well, you have the core courses in corporate taxation and partnership taxation, research and writing. But from that point forward, the program is entirely flexible. So if you want it to focus on state and local tax issues or international tax, real estate, estate and gift, all of those classes are there and available for you to take. The program is also available through distance learning. In fact, our distance learning program is ranked in US News and World Report as one of the best online MS tax programs.
Another option that our students are presented with is that they can combine the MBA in Accounting with an MS in Taxation. Another thing that makes our program exceptional is the faculty. Each and every one of my colleagues, our CPAs, have a JD and an LLM in taxation. The adjunct faculty that we use are for the most part, partners at big four firms. And they bring to our program expertise in very specialized areas of taxation.
